The governor of Alaska was Sarah Palin, a Republican. She took over in 2006. 2009 saw her leave the office.

Alaska’s At-Large Congressional District was represented by Palin, a Republican Party candidate, in the U.S. House race. On November 8, 2022, she lost the general election.

For Alaska’s At-Large Congressional District, Palin also campaigned in a special election for the U.S. House. August 16, 2022 was the day of her loss in the extraordinary general election.

In the 2008 US presidential election, Palin was the Republican contender for vice president. Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, revealed his choice of Palin as his running mate on August 29 of that year. At the Saint Paul, Minnesota, Republican National Convention in 2008, she received a nomination. Palin was the first Republican woman and the second woman to run for vice president on a major-party ticket.

From 1992 until 1996, Palin spent two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, city council, which marked the beginning of her political career. Later, from 1996 to 2002, she was elected to two terms as mayor of Wasilla. She had a failed candidacy for lieutenant governor of Alaska in 2002, but she went on to head the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 2003 to 2004 and oversee the commission’s ethics.

Palin became the first female governor of Alaska and the youngest person to hold the position when she was elected in November 2006. With 48.3% of the vote, she defeated former Democratic governor Tony Knowles in the general election and the sitting Republican governor Frank Murkowski in the Republican primary.
