The team went on to win the season.<\/li>\n\n<li>Steve scored a total of 166 runs in 9 matches that included 1 half-century and took 6 wickets and 9 catches in the 2011-2012&nbsp;<em>Big Bash League<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n<li>His impressive performance at the 2011-2012&nbsp;<em>Big Bash League<\/em>&nbsp;made former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly notice him and he was selected to play for&nbsp;<em>Pune Warriors<\/em>&nbsp;India in 2012&nbsp;<em>Indian Premier League<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n<li>He was made the captain of&nbsp;<em>Pune Warriors<\/em>&nbsp;in 1 match when the original captain&nbsp;Sourav Ganguly&nbsp;could not play, although, team\u2019s vice-captain was Michael Clarke.<\/li>\n\n<li>In the IPL, he was first chosen by&nbsp;<em>Royal Challengers Bangalore<\/em>&nbsp;in 2010 as the replacement for former international Newzealand cricketer Jesse Ryder.<\/li>\n\n<li>Steve was taken by&nbsp;<em>Kochi Tuskers Kerala<\/em>&nbsp;in 2011 for an estimated $200k but could not play in that season due to an ankle injury. In the next season,&nbsp;<em>Kochi Tuskers<\/em>&nbsp;were removed from the IPL and he was chosen by the&nbsp;<em>Pune Warriors<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n<li>His first match for&nbsp;<em>Pune Warriors<\/em>&nbsp;got him \u2018The Man Of The Match\u2019 award where he scored 39 runs in 32 balls and made his team win against Mumbai Indians.<\/li>\n\n<li>For the 2014 season of&nbsp;<em>Indian Premium League<\/em>, Steve was taken by&nbsp;<em>Rajasthan Royals<\/em>&nbsp;for an estimated amount of $600k and was also made the captain in 2015.<\/li>\n\n<li>Steve has been named as one of the 10 exceptional players for the first edition of the&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Global T20 Canada Cricket Tournament<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n<li>In February 2021, during the IPL Players Auction, he was purchased by the&nbsp;<em>Delhi Capitals<\/em>&nbsp;team for INR 2.20 crore \u2013 only 20 lakhs more than the base price.<\/li>\n\n<li>In January 2023, in the&nbsp;<em>Big Bash League<\/em>&nbsp;(BBL), Steve Smith scored the fastest fifty of his T20 career. While playing for Sydney Sixers against Hobart Hurricanes, he scored a half-century in 22 balls.
