Sachin Tendulkar (born April 24, 1973, Bombay [Mumbai], India) Indian professional cricket player, considered by many to be one of the greatest batsmen of all time. In 2012 he became the first cricketer to score 100 centuries (100 runs in a single innings) in international play.

Childhood & Early Life

• He was born on 24 April 1973, in Dadar, Bombay, Maharashtra, as the youngest of four siblings, to Ramesh Tendulkar, a Marathi novelist and Rajni, who worked in the insurance industry. He was named after his father’s favorite music director, Sachin Dev Burman.
• As a young boy, he was a bully. His older brother encouraged him to play cricket in order to divert his attention from fights, and introduced him to Ramakant Achrekar who was a reputed cricket coach.
• He went to ‘Sharadashram Vidyamandir High School,’ as suggested by Achrekar, as the school had a rich cricketing tradition. He shone as a star cricketer, playing for his school. Subsequently, he had people predicting that he would one day become a famous player.
• Along with his friend Vinod Kambli, he was involved in a record 664-run partnership in an inter school match against ‘St. Xavier’s High School’ in 1988.

• He embarked on his domestic first-class career in 1988, playing for Mumbai and scored a century in his very first match. He ended the season as the highest run scorer.
• Thanks to his impressive performance in first-class matches, he was soon selected for the national team. He made his international test debut against Pakistan in November 1989, aged just 16.

Sachin Tendulkar’s career began with the Ranji Trophy when he was picked for Bombay at 14. He led Mumbai in the 1995-96 Irani Cup match against the rest of India. Tendulkar retired from one-day international cricket on December 23, 2012, following a string of poor performances during the series against England in 2012. • He holds the record for the most Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards in international cricket (all three forms combined). Till date, he has won the MoM award 76 times (14 times in Tests, 62 times in ODIs) and the MoS award 20 times (5 times in Tests, 15 times in ODIs). Both are world records.
• He, along with Sourav Ganguly, has been involved in 38 hundred-plus partnerships in international cricket (all three forms combined). This is a world record. The 12,400 runs scored by this pair is also a world record. • Between 25th April 1990 and 24th April 1998, Sachin Tendulkar represented India in a total of 239 matches (54 Tests and 185 ODIs) without missing a single game. Till date, this remains a world record for the most number of consecutive matches for a team.
