Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s son Pankaj to become Cycling Federation of India president
Pankaj Singh, a member of the BJP from Noida, will be formally announced as the president of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) on Saturday. Singh was the only contender for the position. At the election meeting on Saturday in Nainital, Uttarakhand, all 24 members of the CFI executive council, including Pankaj, will be elected without opposition.
He will take over for Parminder Singh Dhindsa, the former minister of Punjab, who is no longer qualified to run in the elections according to the Sports Code. The Fencing Association of India briefly elected Pankaj, the son of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, as its president. He left the position in April of last year, citing his “commitments as a legislator” in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
Being the only candidate for the position, incumbent Maninder Pal Singh will also be re-elected as Secretary General for a second term in a row. The treasurer will be Keralan Sudeesh Kumar.
The elections will choose one president, one senior vice president, six vice presidents, one secretary general, one treasurer, six joint secretaries, and nine members of the executive council.
There won’t be any opposition to any of the 25 offices’ elections. The final list of candidates for the contest was announced by returning officer Justice (retd) RK Gauba on Wednesday.
