Mohamed Muizzu is an engineer and politician from the Maldives. He was chosen to serve as the Maldives’ president in October 2023. He is renowned for being pro-China as well. Muizzu was appointed Male’s Minister of Housing and Environment in 2012 and remained in that role until his resignation in 2023. He was in charge of the Sinamale Bridge and several other infrastructure projects while a member of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA). 

Muizzu became part of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) following the 2018 presidential election, and in 2019 he was named vice president. He became the first mayor of Male to be chosen directly by the populace in 2021, and he served a five-year term as mayor.

Allegations Of Forcing A Maid To Commit Suicide

In 2023, during the Presidential elections, the opposition parties accused Mohamed Muizzu of forcing his expat maid to commit suicide in 2012 while he was serving as the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure. They also claimed that the maid was driven to commit suicide as he frequently displayed ill intentions towards her. However, the allegations were denied by Muizzu’s wife who, in a rally. said that the opposition parties were spreading disinformation to tarnish Muizzu’s image. She further said that the police thoroughly investigated the issue and did not come up with such findings. She said,
