Lata Shinde is Shinde’s wife. A boat overturned near their native village in Maharashtra on 2 June 2000, killing their son Dipesh (aged 11) and daughter Shubhada (aged 7). On 20 June 2022, Eknath made news when he was caught cross-voting in the Shiv Sena legislative council elections with several other Shiv Sena MLAs. According to reports, this cross-voting would result in the BJP gaining the MLC seats. Soon after the elections, he and his fellow MLAs were reported missing, and it was rumoured that he was living in a hotel in Surat, Gujarat.
