Lata Shinde is Shinde’s wife. A boat overturned near their native village in Maharashtra on 2 June 2000, killing their son Dipesh (aged 11) and daughter Shubhada (aged 7). On 20 June 2022, Eknath made news when he was caught cross-voting in the Shiv Sena legislative council elections with several other Shiv Sena MLAs. According to reports, this cross-voting would result in the BJP gaining the MLC seats.
