Warner made his first-class debut playing for new South Wales against Western Australia in the final match of the 2008-09 Sheffield Shield season. On 29 November 2008, warner hit his first domestic one day century for New South Wales with a score of 165 against Tasmania at Hurstville Oval in Sydney. In 2009, he set a new record for the fastest half-century scored in the Australian domestic Twenty20 Cricket, 50 in 18 balls against Tasmania. Warner scored 197 runs off 141 balls, hitting 20 fours and 10 sixes, playing for New South Wales in domestic tournament.

- On 11 January 2009, Warner made his International Debut for Australia in T20I against South Africa at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
