Amit Jain, an IIT Delhi alumnus, is the CEO and co-founder of CarDekho, an online marketplace for buying and selling used cars. Previously, the entrepreneur worked for TCS and Trilogy, a Texas-based software company. 

Jain worked as a Software Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services from 1999 to 2000 when he graduated from IIT (TCS). Following his time at TCS, he worked as a Senior Associate in Austin for a Texas-based software company called ‘Trilogy.’ After his father became ill, he returned to India in 2006. This is when Amit decided to start his own IT outsourcing company in his hometown of Jaipur.

Amit and his brother Anurag Jain turned their garage into a makeshift company to launch ‘Girnar Soft,’ kicking off his dream of establishing an IT firm. According to Startup Talky, the brothers quickly hired a team of 20 people for their company. The promo for Shark Tank India season two has been released, and Ashneer Grover is nowhere to be found. Some fans believe the show will be different without him.

My family’s unwavering support has contributed significantly to my success. Back in 2006, my brother Anurag and I quit our jobs and moved back to Jaipur, where our entrepreneurial journey began in our small home garage, which we converted into a makeshift office, and incorporated GirnarSoft, a software outsourcing company with a big dream to build a billion-dollar company. After a year of working on GirnarSoft, we went to the 2008 Auto Expo in New Delhi and came back with the idea for our new venture, CarDekho.

Our goal was to use technology to provide users with the best-in-class car buying or selling experience possible. We created a website where people could come to get the right information and review cars before making a purchase decision. As they say, the road to success is not always smooth, and we encountered numerous stumbling blocks while developing CarDekho. 

But we persevered and bootstrapped for 7 long years, turned CarDekho profitable, secured $15 million in Series-A funding in 2013, and grew to become a unicorn with a valuation of $ 1.2 billion. Looking back, I’d say that what began as a simple portal for new cars has now evolved into a complete ecosystem that provides a one-stop solution for auto buyers/sellers that includes new cars, used cars, finance, and insurance. Our Used Auto Business is also one of the industry’s fastest-growing players, trading used cars in over 20 markets.

We also founded Insurance Dekho, the largest B2B Insurtech in the country and one of the leading B2C insurance brokers. Rupyy, our Fintech venture, is a profitable company with a 13% market share in India. BikeDekho, CollegeDekho, and our acquisitions Gaadi.com and Zigwheels are also part of the group. Personal Life of CarDekho Owner Amit Jain

Amit Jain was born & grown up in India & did his education from Jaipur to Delhi. The knowledge to run a business & make their own reorganizations was so far in his genes. His father ran a business of semi-precious gemstones & was an astrologer as a entire. His mother is a homemaker & provides a particular bond with his mother & brother Anurag Jain.

Sadly, their father passed away cause cancer in 2006 & they have to hold ahead the family tradition. Even though, the brothers never had any interest in astrology cause of forecast can sometimes be in favour or sometimes opposed to them. He  comeback back in the year 2006 after his father was identified with cancer. At that time, he came up with the plan of set up a million-dollar company IT contract out firm in his hometown that will pay for all his attempts with fruitful outcome.

But Amit and his younger brother Anurag had to leave their job because of their father’s fatal disease, which was getting worse. In 2006 when their father died, Amit and Anurag came back home to handle their family business of selling gemstones.

But, two of them did not have any interest in the family business. So, they planned to start a software company instead. This company was named GirnarSoft. The company soon grew enough to start CarDekho in 2008.

The Jain brothers developed the idea of starting CarDekho after they attended the Auto Expo held in New Delhi. So they designed a porta for delivering information to potential buyers about cars. The information was arranged in a way to help make buying decisions about the cars.

They also developed an intuitive way of connecting the buyers and sellers of old cars through the websites they were building. But the start was never easy. While developing the website, Amit Jain and his brother faced a loss of Rs.1 Cr in the share and stock market.

This huge loss was a massive stab at the heart of the business. But, in 2015, the business finally started to pick up pace. The Jain brothers finally saw a rise in the graph of the CarDekho business. The portal soon started to return the Jain brothers with a good amount of earnings – almost more than what they had initially thought of. This success also helped them get the attention of an American investment firm named Sequoia Capital.

Later, they merged the CarDekho website with Gaadi, Zigwheels, Carmudi Philippines, and Carddrift. Once CarDekho was a success, the siblings were ready to launch other businesses like InsurenceDekho, CollegeDekho, and BikeDekho.

Three of these businesses were also able to grow and expand in their respective industries and generate revenue.
