Hema Malini returned to the big screen in the 2003 film Baghban, after a prolonged sabbatical. She received a nomination for a Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance.   • Hema Malini began her political career in Gurdaspur, Punjab, in 1999, campaigning for Vinod Khanna (a BJP candidate).
  • In 2003, Hema Malini was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s then-President.
  • Hema Malini became a member of the BJP in February 2004.
  • Hema Malini was also elected as the BJP’s General Secretary in 2010.
