After graduating, Sonam worked as an air hostess. The year 2012 was the first time she was a participant in the Femina Miss India beauty pageant and was among the contestants. After winning the competition, Sonam made her Punjabi film debut as Simran for the movie Best Of Luck (2013). Sonam also made her Tamil debut in her romantic comedy Kappal (2014).
