But in 2016, Kajol and Karan’s friendship took a new turn when the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil—which also starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Shivaay (Ajay Devgn)—was released. The two films faced off at the box office. In a tweet, self-described critic Kamaal R Khan (KRK) claimed that Karan had given him Rs 25 lakh to make fun of Shivaay and promote Ae Dil Hai Mushkil when both films competed at the box office. The Golmaal actor then retweeted the message. Subsequently, Karan claimed that he had received angry phone calls from Ajay. What hurt him the most, though, was when Kajol retweeted her husband’s tweet and included the word astonished.
He said bluntly that the actress erased every emotion he had for her for 25 years and that Kajol’s reaction to the circumstance left him feeling emotionally crushed and heartbroken. He went on to add that since she had done the most heinous thing for someone who loved her, he had no pity for her. But Kajol and Karan couldn’t keep their animosity within for very long. After Karan gave birth to twins Yash and Roohi in February of the following year, their relationship progressively improved. First, just like Karan’s family photo on Instagram, Kajol’s post was a dead giveaway. Later, as the famous guests on Karan’s Koffee With Karan, Season 6 included Ajay and Kajol.
