Coal scam: Delhi court allows Cong leader Naveen Jindal to travel abroad
Congressman and businessman Naveen Jindal, who is charged in three cases pertaining to purported anomalies in coal block allocation, has been granted permission by a Delhi court to visit Oman and the United Arab Emirates on September 11 and 13.
Jindal’s plea was granted by Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj, who noted that Jindal had previously traveled overseas on multiple occasions and had returned to India in time for the trial.
“In the considered opinion of this court, the applicant/accused is entitled to permission of the court to travel abroad to Oman and UAE from September 11 to 13,” said the judge.
The judge ordered Jindal to provide a fixed deposit of Rs. 1 crore and to refrain from attempting to influence any witness or tamper with any evidence.
In relation to his business interests, Jindal had submitted the motion to get permission from the court to travel to the two countries.
The CBI is looking into possible irregularities in the allocation of the Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Jharkhand, which is one of the cases in which Jindal is accused.
The ED is looking at a different money laundering case that has to do with the coal bock allotment.
The third case under investigation by the CBI concerns purported anomalies in the distribution of the Madhya Pradesh coal block Urtan North.
The application was not opposed by the ED or the CBI.
Delhi court gives ‘no-objection’ for renewal of Naveen Jindal’s passport
A Delhi court has declared that it has no objections to Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal’s passport renewal. Jindal is suspected of being involved in a coal scandal.
Meanwhile, Special Judge Arun Bharadwaj stated that the order was simply a no-objection letter and did not include any instructions to any entity about Jindal’s passport renewal.
The judge stated in an order dated September 2 that after taking into account the different rulings that the applicant’s attorney had cited, the court finds it reasonable to allow no objection. The accused’s passport will be renewed, and it will be valid for the entire 10 years.
In a case concerning purported anomalies in the distribution of the Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Jharkhand, Jindal is one of the accused.
The application was not opposed by the ED or the CBI.
His passport expires in May of the following year.
