In September 2021, Lisa made her solo debut with her single album Lalisa, becoming the first female artist to sell 736,000 copies of an album in South Korea within the album’s first week of sales. Life and Career
1997–2010: Early life and Education
On March 27, 1997, in Buriram Province, Thailand, she was legally born Pranpriya Manobal. Later, at the suggestion of a fortune teller for wealth, she legally changed her name to Lalisa, which means “the one being praised. Raised by her Thai mother, Chitthip Brüschweiler, and her Swiss stepfather, chef Marco Brüschweiler, she was an only child. Lisa attended Praphamontree Schools I and II for her secondary studies. She is multilingual; in addition to her native Thai, she also speaks basic Chinese and Japanese, Korean, and English fluently.
She started taking dance lessons when she was four years old, and she soon started participating in competitions, such as To Be Number One. She also joined the eleven-person dance ensemble We Zaa Cool, which includes BamBam of Got7. The team participated in the Channel 9 broadcast of the LG Entertainment Million Dream Sanan World competition in September 2009, where they were awarded the Special Team Award. Lisa also competed as a school representative in the Moral Promotion Center-hosted singing competition Top 3 Good Morals of Thailand, placing second.
2012–2015: Pre-debut Activities
Lisa went to Thailand in 2010 as a 13-year-old to try out for the South Korean record firm YG Entertainment. When she was younger, she developed an interest in the K-pop scene because she looked up to performers like BigBang and 2NE1 and wanted to become like them. She was the only one out of four thousand candidates who met the requirements, therefore Yang Hyun-suk, the CEO at the time, offered Lisa the opportunity to train with YG Entertainment. 2016–present: Debut with Blackpink and solo ventures
As one of the four members of the South Korean girl group Blackpink, Lisa made her debut in August 2016 and became the label’s first non-Korean artist. Lead singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah” from Blackpink’s debut single album Square One debuted at the top of all South Korean charts.
From September 21, 2018, Lisa has been a regular cast member of MBC’s military variety show Real Man 300, which is based at Korea Army Academy. She received the unofficial Character of the Year award at the 2018 MBC Entertainment Awards for her first television role since her debut.

It became Lisa’s first number-one single on the Latin Airplay chart and peaked at number two on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 in the US.
Lisa would be featured on BigBang member Taeyang’s second extended play, Down to Earth, it was revealed by Osen in April 2023.
